Who’s Your Favorite Fictional Detective?

I recently blogged a top ten list of mysteries written during the Golden Age. Received some terrific comments.

This led me to wonder about what are some of your favorite fictional detectives from any era.  I could give you a long list of my favorites, but I’m more interested in what others think. On Google Plus, I posed the same question and received these characters, a mix of modern and classic detectives:

Ross McDonald’s Lew Archer

Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot

Author Louise Penny’s Inspector Armand Gamache

Dorothy L. Sayers’s Lord Peter Wimsey

Tom Golabek’s Mike Murdock

P. D. James’s Adam Dalgliesh

Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe.

Dashiell Hammett’s Nick Charles

Okay, the last one is my favorite fictional detective. Lord Peter Wimsey has received the most comments so far. The list is top-heavy with classic mystery detectives. Who are some of the current mystery detectives you enjoy?
